My Passport - can't now access backup function

I Have a WD My Passport which I have been using to backup my main P.C. and my laptop. This has worked fine for over six months.
At my latest attempt to backup my P.C. , the program, for the first time, asked for a password which I could not supply. I had to erase the files and set up a new password. I have to enter this every time but the backup now works fine. However there is a problem when trying to backup files on my laptop. I enter the new password which unlocks the program but if I select WD Backup nothing happens. I can access WD Discovery etc. The problem is just with the Backup Function.
