my new wd black sn750 ssd overheats while gaming, crashes, boots me from game back to desktop. i have the ssd with no heatsink.

I am having the same problem. Installed it in my laptop and after a game installed on the drive crashes the drive becomes unresponsive until a system reboot.
actually mine was not overheating, it was having a conflict with one game. as far as yours is concerned, m.2 ssd drives most of the time always overheat in a laptop. my ssd is in a desktop i built. a lot more airflow.
I bought a heatsink for mine - seems to be helping
