My Media Library playback issues

I have just installed the SMP and so far so good except for one teething problem. I have added a network source for the Media Livrary to scan and several files don’t play correctly when accessed via the ‘My Media Library’ source. They play with audio but no video???

I have checked by changing the source to ‘Media Server’ and navigating to the same file - playback is fine?

The SMP is running 1.10.13 and streaming from a ‘My Book Live’. Any ideas?

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

Bump

I note that the container video profile is Main@L5.1 which isn’t a supported profile.

That in and of itself is weird, because the Writing Library is listed as Handbrake 0.9.2, which has never supported L5.1 profile.

So all bets are off.

As to why it would stream OK via a DLNA server, I have no idea, unless the DLNA server is transcoding it for you…

You missed the point. The WDTV plays the file if I select using ‘media server’ as source. If I select ‘my media library’ as source it doesn’t? Makes no sense at all…

He didn’t miss the point. When you select Media Server, you are selecting a DLNA source as Tony has mentioned. Something is pushing that media to the WD TV and transcoding it before it gets there. What are you selecting AFTER you select Media Server?

When you select Media Library - you are using WD TV’s built in indexing feature to display your media (wherever it may be stored) and trying to play it directly (over USB, stream over network, etc.) and only the codecs supported by the WD TV live will work (which is rather extensive and which generally makes this the best box for one’s own media.)
