my question is simple, can I pull the drives out of my livebook duo 8TB raid and put it in the bays of a driveless EX2? If so, am i correct in saying the usb 3.0 connection will be extremely faster?

Hi and welcome tot he WD community.
You are able to put the drives on the diskless unit, but you will have to reformat the drives in order for them to work on this device, so if the drives do have data on them you will have to back this data up and then reformat the drives on the unit since its using a different system than the My Book Live Duo.

I believe the My Book Live duo has a USB 2.0 port.
