I purchased my WD 4 TH My Book last November. (2015). I have lots of files and pictures stored on it that I would like to retrieve. When I attach the My Book to my laptop the laptop does not acknowledge it under devices, so I can’t do anything with it. Any ideas?

Make sure the drive is plugged in directly into a wall outlet to discard any power issues. You can also try replacing the USB cable just a troubleshooting step.
