My Cloud is connected but not recognised

OK, so I purchased WDMyC, connected to the router and connected the power cable, plugged everything in.

The blue light on the WD was on, as well as the router’s LAN - so, everything went well with the connecting.

Next, I went to the WDMyCloud page and oppened an account.
But, I was ‘welcomed’ by this message:

There seems to be a problem. You might not be able to recognize the device on your network:

(Let me point out that the serial number and my network IP is shown - but the device isn’t recognised.)

The same thing here: no device connected.

I’ve tried with WD Support / Knowledge base, but there I couldn’t find the topic about my problem.

I have 3 internal WD disks which work properly (2 Black, 1 Green) and I’m happy with them.

I was ‘forced’ to purchase WD My Book because I needed a disk for back-up and MyCloud wasn’t set up

properly. So, I still have MyCloud which is on but isn’t working, that is, I cannot use it.

I expect that the device works when I connect to the computer.

I wanted to return MyCloud External HD but the seller told me I couldn’t because the disk is 'signed in with my

IP adress and my data.’

I just wanted to ask the WD how do I ‘unsign’ MyCloud because I want another external HD that isn’t
cloud-related.

And I want to know if it is possible to return MyCloud and how and get another external HD in exchange?

It seems that cloud storage is too complicated for my and I want something simple to work with, like MyBook.

(I’m very satisfied with MyBook because I set it up right away.)

Thank you for your help.

I have had my WD My Cloud for several months and it was very easy to set up. You may want to look at this information. Be sure to open up the My Cloud │How It Works tab.

Does your My Cloud have the same workgroup name as your others?

Make sure that you have file sharing and network discovery services enabled on your computer. It is possible for example that Windows has setup your network as a public network instead of as a private network.

Thank you, cat0w, the link you’ve put is very helpful and easy to follow. I’ve checked it, but I turned MyCloud off (Utillities,

Shut down) and I got the message that I will have to reboot the computer if I want to have it back on. (More

difficulties for me. Why I cannot turn it back on with a single click of a mouse?)

I also started to think there must be some kind of problem in communication (connection) with MyCloud and the network. But, all of this is becoming more and more difficult. Now I have to find out how do I make my network into private,

if that is in question. Maybe it solves the problme, and maybe it doesn’t. Maybe the problem is with something else.

Maybe it isn’t. Obviously, I don’t have enough experience & knowledge to deal with cloud storage via external disk.

I would be happier if I could use MyCloud without connecting it to the network - but I guess that isn’t possible.

On Windows 7&8, right click on the network connection in the system tray and choose sharing center. The opening window will show you the type of network you have.

OK, I went to Network&Sharing Center (I have Vista) and, indeed, the network was set to ‘Public’ so I changed it
private.

But, there is another problem. Yeserday, I’ve read this post:

http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud/How-to-turn-off-WD-My-Cloud/td-p/758462

so I’ve turned MyCloud off. And I cannot turn it back on.

Because when I go to http://wdmycloud, I have this:

that is, ‘no devices available.’

Hi Maykro Soft,

The last topic link gives instructions to put drive in shutdown so it can be unplugged.

If you unplug if for 15 seconds and then plug it back in it should come back up where you can access it providing you can see it on your network.

If the drive does not show up in your “Local Network” it can’t be seen by WD’s cloud app.

If its not showing up you can try pressing the reset button while the drive is running (be careful not to bump the drive while plugged in).  Give the drive a few minutes and If your using Windows go in to “Network & Sharing” and refresh the network devices to see if your My Cloud is present on your Local Network.

If this does not work. Pull the power adpater on your My Cloud and let the drive power down for 15 seconds. Using a paper clip hold in the Reset Button (keep holding) and plug power  into your My Cloud. Continue holding reset button for at least 45 seconds no more than 60 seconds then release the reset button. Allow at least 3 to 5 minutes for the drive to fully boot and recheck to see if your My Clloud is now present on your local network.

If your My Cloud is still not present on your local network. Can you connect your computer via ethernet cable to your router or use another computer to see if your My Cloud is still not present (Just trying to eliminate possibilites).  Verify again if present ?  Also, looking up the DHCP table in your router to see if an IP is being assigned to your My Cloud Drive may assit you in getting back in to the Dashboard. If you can determine the IP you can try using your browser to access your Dashboard and check settings.

http://192.168.1.xxx/  or http://192.168.1.xxx/ui  (IP is common subnet of 1 but yours may be different)

Let us know if still not successful in connecting back to your network.

@Maykrosoft,

Forget about using any web application or WD application to access your NAS on your local network at this point. After you have turned on your NAS, the light should be blue, and you see your NAS on your local network using your computer windows network explorer.

Let us know when you get this.
