My Cloud 2 TB - Any custom firmware? HDD upgrade?

Hello guys, 

I have just bought the My Cloud 2TB drive and i have some questions about it:

  1. Is it possible to install something like a custom firmware on it, that gives more functionality ?

  2. Is it possible to install a torrent client ? 

  3. Can i change the HDD drive inside the unit, with a WD Red 2 TB drive ?

  4. How are speeds with the unit ? Is it reliable to keep data on it ?

  5. Are there any ways i can connect to it with something like an Android/IOS similar to Dropbox or bittorrentsync ?

  1. In theory, yes…  Lots of people have written guides in this forum on how to install various other software packages.

  2. Yes

  3. Why would you?   It already has a 2TB Red drive in it now, doesn’t it?

  4. Speeds are excellent in my case – 50-60MByte/second writes with 80-100MByte/second reads.

  5. Yes, using the WD-provided apps.
