This is my 2nd Western Digital external hard drive. The first one i purchase around 4 years ago and it was up and going in a matter of minutes. However, I cannot get this new one to work… I believe I installed it correctly. However, in the main menu i can only change the settings, I can retrieve or backup my hard drive. does anyone have a solution. I wish I could locate an older version and take return this piece of trash.

What OS are you using?
If Mac, you need to reformatted/partition to HFS+J/GUID.
If Windows, check to make sure it is NTFS partitioned with drive letter assigned.
