My Book Essential 2TB not recognized by my netbook


I have recently purchased a Western Digital 2TB My Book Essential and can’t seem to get it to work. At all. I plugged in the adapter and the USB cord. The light is on and it’s not making any sound. I’ve run the new hardware installation twice now and it still won’t appear under My Computer. Right now, it’s not even connecting at all. I have a Dell mini 10v netbook, if that makes a difference, with Windows XP. Any help is absolutely appreciated, thanks!

If you can’t hear drive spinning while LED lit and USB connected; you may have a faulty drive. Contact WD Support.
