My Book 4TB Periodically Disconnects

I share my My Book 4TB over my network using my router (Netgear R6300). Periodically, the drive stops sharing, the router indicates  there’s nothing connected and the drive blinks a white light… The only ways I’ve been able to get it to work again is:

  1. Unplug the USB cable and plug it back in.

  2. Turn the router off then on.

  3. Turn the drive off then on.

Is this how it’s supposed to work? Or can some setting be changed?

Hello,

The WD My Book Drives have not been designed to work with a router. WD has a drive specially designed for this purpose. This drive is called My Book Live.

Try disabling the sleep timer, WD drives come with sleep mode on for 30 minutes and if there’s no activity they’ll shut down. The sleep timer is under smartware settings so you’ll have to plug the drive on USB.
