Hello. After returning to Amazon what I thought then was a faulty drive last week, have now learned the replacement too, is not registering on my Windows desktop. This is my fourth Passport external hard drive, the other three still activate when plugged in. All are smaller, older drives. The 2TB shakes and lights up like it looks like it’s going to show up on my comp, but does not. It is not the cord. My computer is ten years old and still on Windows XP. I really don’t want to return this second 2TB back to Amazon if I can help it. Any thoughts on my situation?
XP doesn’t support GPT drives via USB, which is probably how it is formatted. You might be able to reformat it as MBR, though.
On a related note, I’d HIGHLY recommend upgrading the OS or replacing the computer - XP is not safe to use on the internet anymore. Microsoft is not fixing security vulnerabilities as the OS is EOL. See the link below for more details:
