Multiple partitions

I have a 1 Tb MyBook Elite external hard drive that I purchased last August 2011. I would like to configure it to 3 primary partitions and 1 extended–but I would like to hear ideas and advice regarding this first (before doing anything).

I have configured one of my internal hard drives with 3 primary partitions–no problem–but, never on an external hard drive. Can anyone advise me on (the My Book Elite) external hard drive having multiple partitions?

With an external HDD is the same thing, just follow the same steps to create the partitions.

Kinda thought so…but better to get advice from those who have actually done it.
