Mp4 FForwarding is much more smoother then MKV Forwarding

FW 1.4.22

Tool used :  VideoReDo Tv Suite 4 ( with MKV / Mp4 Chapter Support )

Source : Same as i used in the Containers / Untouched

Output  used:

  1. H.264 Matroska MKV

  2. H264  MP4

I tested those in compare and if i FF the Mp4 its really Smooth and constantly 2x, 4, 8, 16 times you see the Picture

being FF played.

If i FF the MKV’s its like alltime stopping the Pic and only shows like a “Single Picture Still” each 5 mins i FF

The timecode runs normal and if you stop at perhaps minute 15 then you

can see the Picture of Minute 15.

But its much difference in its Visuals to Mp4. It seems to be overall MKV behave because not only my own TV Recordings  behave like this. It’s also MKV from the Net.

Example of a normal Sky HD TV Movie Recording. I really see no difference in GOP  / ReFrames.

Perhaps Mp4 is overall better in its behaves then MKV Containers?

Or is it a WDTV Live behave it handles it different?

ATM my Choice would be MP4 for the great behaves in FF if  the WD TV Live would support MP4 chapters.

If its really a MKV alltime behave with stillpics every so minutes shown instead of a smoothy Pic FastForwarding Visual then Mp4 is really the best Container Format around.

I dont see on your specs any information on the FPS. That may have something to do with it. Try lowering the fps in the MP4.
