MCM freezes host computer

Queried a file size on the MCM, which I know to be huge (160Gb) and it’s taken 18 hours so far and still grinding away.

So, tried to eject the disk to shut it up. 

Wouldn;t eject as “was in use”.

Tried to reboot the MCM. Wouldn’t reboot - carried on grinding away.

Tried to restart the iMac - Finder ‘not responding’ so had to Force Quit.

Finder wouldn’t restart to had to shutdown the iMac.

This is rubbish. Am starting to get fed up of this.

Does this need to get sent back?
