MBP clamshell mode wont' wake up if connected to G-Raid TB2 drive

I have a setup where my 16" MBP is linked to a G-Raid Thunderbolt 2 via the Apple TB3 to TB2 adapter. When using the MBP in clamshell mode, and after the MBP goes to sleep, I can not wake it using the keyboard or mouse. Then when I open the lid, the MBP screen does not bring up itself as well (even when using the internal keyboard and mouse pad). I have to force restart it. This only happens when connected to the G-Raid. It does not happen when the MBP is connected to external monitors or other devices.

I spoke with Apple and they had to attempt all the standard fixes, including resetting the SMC and NVRAM. They say its the G-Raid and they can’t help me. Does anyone have a similar issue or have a solution to fixing this? Thanks.
