Making a folder within a private share hidden

Is there a way to do this?

I have a private share. It contains two folders. I want to make one of them hidden. Simply selecting the folder and right clicking, selecting properties and selecting hidden as an attribute doesn’t seem to work. It appears to work, in that it says it is “applying attributes” and all subfolders, but when I then set windows to “do not show hidden files and folders” it still appears.

any suggestions?

Since the file system is running in a Linux system, the HIDDEN attribute has a different meaning. To hide a folder, just prefix the name with a decimal, such as “.my folder”
