Live hub media-info content retrival

I noticed one thing about media-info retrival on the hub.

If the Movie name is the same

example The Thomas Crown affair 1999 versus The Thomas Crow affair 1968

Then the media-info will retrive data and apply it to both files

Alice in Wonderland

Cleopatra

The Thomas Crown Affair

Robin Hood

etc.

What’s the work around on naming the file?

You’re saying it does that even if the names are unique?

Mine is getting confused with the two “The Italian Job’s”, even though I have the year in the title of each. It randomly changes it back. I assume the media library needs cleared and rebuild, buy ugh if I want to go thru 200 movies again.

I’m afraid that we have been through this before and it is a problem. We have seen it with all movies that have the same title from the database. It does not matter what name the file is, its the title that you download that causes the problem. The only work around was to go to the movie database and update the title name by say adding the year to the title. However I have noticed that due to the fact that this is an open database that anybody can update, other users are deleting the year and so the problem carries on.

Some problem movies:

Karate Kid                            old  http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/1885      new  http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/38575

Clash of the Titans            old  http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/10323     new  http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/18823

The Italian Job                    old  http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/10536     new  http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/9654

The only other work around, which will also upset the hard core database users, is to duplicate one of the problem movies and add the date to the title. This way the originals on the database will remain. You may find that this extra movie is eventually reported and deleted.

See here for an example.

Clash of the Titans

http://www.themoviedb.org/search?search=clash+of+the+titans

There is  the 2010 version and the 1981 version. If you download one and then download the other you will overwrite the original file as they share a common name. However as you see another user got round this by adding a duplicate for the 1981 version by adding the date. As they now have different names one does not overwrite the other on the hub.

If you look at the change log for the original 1981 version of this movie you will see that the title was changed to add 1981 and later another user changed it back. However nobody seems to object to the duplicate (yet)

You have to register on the site to update or edit and then wait for about a day for the API cache to be updated. The edits will be seen immediately via a browser but the hub uses the API cache.

Yes, I’m saying if the file names are unique

The metadata will be applied to both files and I gave examples for you to try.

Take any to two avi files

Name the files (example only)

  1. Alice in Wonderland  2010

  2. Alice In Wonderland 1976

Get media content for Alice in Wonderland. The hub will find several listings.

Apply the first listing to file 1 and then attempt to apply the second listing to file 2.

The hub will change the media info for file 1.

many movies have the same name

The Thomas Crown Affair, Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, Dracula, The Wolfman, Cleopatra, LadyKillers and on and on.

The hub won’t disambiguate the search items and won’t construct unique  metadata files.

I think I can manually do this but the Hub must produce search results, a list of unique items, to select from.

I am new to all this and not very technical savvy, I created a new title in themoviedb.org but it did not appear when I did a search for it on the wd media player live, is there something I am missing? any and all help would greatly be appreciated.

You have to wait for the API to be updated. You will see the update immediately on your browser but the database that the hub uses is not updated immediately, try tomorrow.
