Link up - 100 Mbps - Will Port mapping my airport express increase speed?

Hello:

I have a 4TB MyCloud connected to my Airport Express router. CPU is a Macbook Pro

My speed is very slow with my link up in the back of the Mycloud showing “yellow”

I have checked all my cables and they are all 5 & above

Will port mapping my airport express increase my speed?

If so, can someone provide instructions?

Of course not.  If the link on the back of the My Cloud is yellow, that means the connection is only a Fast Ethernet connection, not Gigabit Ethernet.

Port Mapping doesn’t have anything to do with ethernet ports.

Thank you TonyPh for the reply.

With my current hardware, is there anything I can do to obtain a gigabit Ethernet connection?

I am not very technical savvy with these products so I apologize

Hi there,

No worries if you aren’t a techie!  By the way, WD support can definitely help you out too just so you know ( http://support.wdc.com))

I read through Apple’s page:  https://www.apple.com/airport-express/ and it states that the Airport Express only has a 100Base-T connection.  With your current router, there wouldn’t be a way to change this since it is a hardware limitation.

You can get a cheap gigabit switch for ~$20, plug it into your airport and plug all the devices into the switch.  That will give you gigabit speed

Thanks for the reply tnynyn

Just a follow up question,

even if I purchase a gigabit ethernet switch, doesn’t my router have to be gigabit ethernet as well to get gigabit speed?

I don’t think the aiport express has gigabet ethernet

Thank you again
