Larger RE4 drives

The new “Red” line of drives is awesome, but the product page says they’re only supported in enviornments of up to five bays (even though you also qualfiy a six-bay Netgear). Meanwhile, I have a DroboPro with eight bays bursting at the seams full of 2TB drives and you don’t offer RE4 drives in any larger capacities.

Is the RE4 line dead? If so, can you qualify the Red line for enviornments with up to eight or twelve drives?

Thank you.

As far as I know the WD RE4 stills under production.

Keep in mind that WD is not saying that is not compatible, is only that they havent tested and they can not guarantee that they will work on a 8 or 12 bays NAS device.  So it might work :manwink:

Oh I know it would probably work fine and have seen reviews of the Red drives inside of eight-bay DroboPro units, but it’s not officially supported. I don’t want to run into a situation down the line where I want a drive replaced under warranty and they say I used it in an unsupported manner.

The larger point though is that the RE4 line has been stuck at 2TB for a long time now and really needs an increase. Either that, or just say the Red line is supported in any NAS device, regardless of number of drive bays.

It looks like WD has started calling the RE4 series RE. The WD RE WD4000FYYZ 4TB  is a 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive. They are expensive and a little hard to find.
