ISO Appears Much Narrower Than Actual DVD... Why So?

Having ripped a movie to .ISO with dvdshrink I noticed it was quite different in size from the actual dvd itself.  The dvd played through a Philips dvd player had the usual black bands on the top and bottom, though not that bad. Once ripped to iso and played back via WD Streamer the movie had much wider bands at the top and bottom and appeared as a very narrow rather unwatchable strip in the middle. The box states it is anamorphic widescreen 2.35:1 … Why is this and is this correctable ?

Thank you…

Do you have the WDTV set correctly with respect ot Widescreen / Normal to match your TV?

2.35:1 is sort of unusual.  2.39:1 is a typical theatrical release…

Can you take a picture of your screen and post it?

What TV do you have, is it standard or wide screen?
It may be that the DVD is optimised for a 16:9 TV and there is a ‘flag’ which tells the TV this information. This flag comes from the DVD player and it may be that its not passed on or acted on by the rip / player.

Thank you for your responses. I looked through the settings and found it set to normal. I believe that was the default setting. I changed it to widescreen and the iso’s look much better. And fill in more of the screen, albeit still with the black bands top and bottom.

My tv is a Samsung un32eh4003 btw…

Thank you again…

It SHOULD have letterboxes. What you’re seeing is correct.
