My hard drive has recently been making a weird noise coming from it, sounds like a grinding or farting king of noise. it only happens when the drive is being accessed such as downloading a game or whatnot. A video of the sound is here - YouTube . Should I return it?. The noise is really really annoying.
Any drive can sound loud when you’re next to an open case, like you show in the video. It could be indexing, or still opening background programs.
Well in the video that was a glass sidepannel. could it just be that it’s a loud drive? it is a WD 2tb black hdd.
Yeah, could be. I run a Black drive in my computer at home and I can hear it running when it’s loading programs and drivers. Or, when it starts indexing.
does it make a similar sound as to what is in the video?
Only when it’s doing extensive reading. It really only happens for me when I’m starting my pc, or when I’m transferring a lot of data. When I’m starting up, it can go on like that
for a good solid minute.
As always keep your data backed up. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about it.
