Is it okay to leave my WD external drive running all of the time?

At this point I leave my WD external drives plugged in and running to do auto backups. Is this a bad thing? Am I shortening the life of these drives?

Is not a bad thing… Basically the software will perform the backup when no  one is using the computer…
