Is 624331WD a madatory FW update for SN850NX?

I want to upgrade my firmware to this latest version 624331WD, but is it a madatory FW update for SN850NX or just recommended ?

Also is this FW update including the bootloader/firmware loader ? In which case if it fails is there a possibility of a bricked device ? I presume you store the FL/BL on SPI flash, so is there a tool to recover if it goes wrong ?
