Installation troubles with new WD3200AAJB

I just installed a new WD3200AAJB  320 GB internal HD, replacing the original one.  I’m trying to load on a new copy of Windows 7, and it just aint happening.  I’m a rookie at this, but try I must to avoid the $130 tech cost that the Geek Squad quoted just to look at an OS intall.  Do I somehow need to format this new HD before it will allow the Win7 to load?  It came up with a message the first time about the Bios?  It’s a 32 bit machine.  ANy and all help is truly appreciated!     TR

What, exactly, does this mean?

 What was the message?

What motherboard are you using?  Have you checked your BIOS settings?

how old is your computer?  an older bios may not support a 320 gb drive.  you should try updating your bios.  also, what size cache is on the drive.  it’s possible that a large 32/64 meg cache may not be compatible with your board’s chipset.  you would need to check that out with mb manufacturer.
