Well, the manual lists what formats and codecs the device will play, so logically, the logical opposite of that list would be the list of what formats and codecs the device won’t play.
e.g.:
The manual lists:
- MPG1
- MPEG-4
- MP4V
- MP42
- AVC
- AAC-LC
as being supported in the .mp4 container, subject to certain other restrictions.
Thus, since the Registration Authority recognizes the following as being “valid” codecs within an .mp4:

and then on top of all that there is the list of invalid codecs to have in an .mp4, and then that’s just for the .mp4 filetype and just if the streams are encoded properly, since it won’t play improper “supported” streams, it seemed rather tedious to try and type up a list of everything the device won’t play.
It just seemed easier to say what it won’t play is anything _ not _ on the list of what it _ will _ play.
