I get a mount error after accidental disconnect

The cord works fine because the WD drive becomes active when plugged into my laptop and is recognized by the computer. The problem is that it fails to mount.
I get “Unknown error mountind /dev/sda1.”
Failing that, I would like to make use of my warranty.
I use Ubuntu, and I don’t really have a backup data service other than the physical drive because duplicity would take forever and was unviable.

I managed to fix it with:
sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda1
