I cannot copy accross files on my external hard drive to PC or another drive

I can see all the file folders on my external hard drive.

When I open the folders though I can’t see any files in some folders, but I know there are 900 GB of files there.

In other folders I can see files but when I try to open I get one of two diffrent messages shown on the screen shot

This also manifests itself by not being able to drag and drop folders accross or sync. using Synctoy

I back up daily and this is the first time I’ve had a problem.
