I have a Mid 2010 iMac, Core i3 3.06 GHz Processor, 4 GB Memory, OS X 10.9 Software.
I connected a WD My Book Essential 3 TB external hard drive over a year ago.
I formatted the drive to Mac OS Extended (journaled) and never used the WD software supplied.
I created a 500 GB partition and used this for Time Machine backups.
It worked fine until I upgraded OS X Software to 10.9.
Now when connected I cannot access my files and it improperly ejects after a couple of minutes.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem?\
See if you are able to repair the partition on Disk Utility.

Thanks John012, I connect the drive and run Disk Utility and repair disk but the drive ejects before the program can finish, very frustrating.
Hi BR, I believe the problem was I had a partition using Time Macine, when I upgraded to Maverick the Time Machine backup failed. What I have done is formatted the drive and luckily it worked so I can atleast use the drive but I lost all of my info. Glenn.
