How to Use MyBook Essential on 2 Computers

I have the 3TB, USB 3.0 Essential working on my HP Laptop with Vista.  I’d like to move all the files off my old desktop with XP.

When I downloaded the SmartWare and ran back-up, it appears that the files from my HP were copied onto my desktop not the other way around.  Can’t seem to figure this out, but here is my goal:

  • WD MyBook Essential is the single back-up drive for two computers
  • all files from the desktop move to the MyBook, so I can trash the old PC

I’m a novice, so any technical advice in plain language would be most welcomed.

If you would like to backup the files from the XP computer, you can do it manually by using copy/paste or using Smartware. If you used Smartware on the XP computer, follow the link below for the steps to retrieve the backup.
