How to setup Git on EX2100

It looks like EX2100 no longer has the option of installing Git on it.  Since Git was available for EX2, it made sense to have it available for EX2100 as well.  Why did WD drop this app for EX2100 and is there still some other way to install it?  If not, are there any good alternatives?

Hi here, welcome to the community.

Unfortunately I have not tried this. Lets see if another user can provide some guidance or tips on how to do this.

Thanks lluna_polanco.  I hope someone has some information about this.

anyone?

Can anyone from WD help with this?

I’m also interested in this

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

Thanks for the info Trancer.  But I talked to the tech support twice already without any success.  Their suggestion was to seek a solution here because they “couldn’t locate anyone in their department who could help me”.

qnapware has a version of git in it that should work with this unit.  However installing it will probably void the warranty on the unit as you need to ssh into it and install qnapware and then the git packages.  Also a number of components of the git packages don’t look to be working (eg. git pull, git merge and git submodule need tweaking of the available binaries to work).

Seems ridiculous that you have the lower performing EX2 with Git and the EX2100 doesn’t. Are we going to be getting it at all?

Hopefully when the new firmware hinted at in  http://www.wdc.com/en/company/pressroom/releases/?release=a1728b47-1095-4c28-ae9a-da9a0c7e7c10 comes out that it will be available.  Looks like WD are working on an SDK to make external app development easier.

Well it looks like git is still not available in the new release of the firmware. Guess we all have to keep waiting for a tru port of git to these NAS devices :frowning:
