I searched the boards but it seems impossible to download complete folders. How so? Is there another solution to avoid very time consuming group file downloads?

You can’t when using WD’s OS5 client apps. Its a well complained about issue.

See the following WD Knowledge Base Article where they flat out say downloading folders using the My Cloud OS5 client apps is not supported:

Important:
Managing content using the My Cloud OS 5 Client apps have the following limitations.
- Copy is not supported
- Moving content between shares is not supported
- Upload and Download of folders is not supported
- There is a 100 file download limitation for the My Cloud OS 5 Web/Mobile App.

The workaround is to use other methods of remote access (some of which may be insecure like FTP) that are allowed by your OS5 My Cloud or by using a VPN setup on network containing the My Cloud.
