How do you get rid of annoying blue arrows?

I have a WD Elements external Drive for Windows PC. When I add a file or folder to the drive, it adds these ugly and annoying blue arrows. What are they and how can I get rid of them ?

Hi @AceMatrix,

Hope it helps!!

The blue arrows mean that the file/folder is being compressed by the NTFS file system. While this can help increase available free space on the drive, it can also slow down drive access because the file needs to be decompressed before it can be opened.

To disable compression and remove the arrows, do the following…

  • In Windows 8, 8.1, 10, open This PC. Right-click on your WD Drive and from the menu, select properties.
  • In the properties window, uncheck compress this drive to save disk space. Click OK. Depending on how many files are stored on your drive, the process may take several minutes to complete.

Thank-you. I did figure that out a couple days ago , but I do appreciate your feedback
