How do I share photos with someone who does not have a WD account

I have set up my WD My Cloud Mirror, have added a folder to the shared section of pictures which contains photos. When I click the folder I do get the option to email or copy link. When I send the link , if omeone tries to open them in a browser they dont show up as a folder, rather they just donwload as a zip file, what am i doing wrong? is that how it shares pictures? or am I doing something wrong.

As my thought was that it would lead them to that shared folder and they can view from there. Thanks.

Folders are shared as a compressed file, but single files are not compressed. Once you decompress the zip file you can see the folder.

Thanks, wish it was a little easier specially for mac users. On Synology its just easier to open a folder and use a web browser withouth any login to share that. Wonder if possible to just send a url for a webbrowser.

URL can be of various types, not just http. If you implied an http URL, then you’ll need to install either WordPress or Joomla first…both are third-party CMS apps. But you’ll have to jump through different install issues first that I’ve seen people report here, and if that works out, THEN you’ll be able to put whatever files you want to share via an http URL. A much easier option, in my opinion, would be to turn ftp on (there is a bug on Mirror that affects FTP as well but I know of a simple workaround that involves SSHing into your Mirror and making a small edit to a text file) and then the one-time step of creating an user acct. for that outside person, granting that person read access on the share/folder with pics, and then sending the person an ftp URL. BTW, both these http or ftp URL methods will also require opening of the http (or ftp) port on your router…by that, I mean port forwarding to the Mirror.

I have never tried the WD mobile app, but I think it’s supposed to make the task of sharing pictures with other friends easier than the two methods I described above…you’ll have to look at the manual for steps for that. The other way I have seen folks do this, is to create an user acct. on your mirror (not a WD acct.) and then use the web file viewer feature. You’ll have to search on the EX2/EX4 or maybe Mirror’s sub-forum to see how to do that. I have seen a couple threads with detailed steps todo that.

Well that **bleep**. I can easily share a folder or file in OneDrive or Google Drive without having to install anything

The web file viewer feature only requires a browser.

BTW, I use both OneDrive and GoogleDrive and like them both. Just so you know, their monthly fees have dropped recently…for both you pay $2/month for 100 gigs of space or $4/month for 200 gigs. Usually that’s plenty for most folks. You might want to consider returning your Mirror if you are still within the return period for the store you bought it from - and switch to a monthly plan from OneDrive or GoogleDrive. Much more limited storage space - but you get pretty reliable infrastructure, not to mention the user-friendly features you already mentioned and I have noticed with GoogleDrive, it’s blazingly fast (almost 3 times faster than OneDrive).

BTW, I did just that by installing Joomla, uploading a few files and then giving my friends the web URLs to those files. See the last (or rather 2nd-last) paragraph of this post →   http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud-EX2/Need-help-with-Joomla-install/m-p/775255#M905
