Help with password Reset

I had a huge amount of trouble setting the device up (and lots of trouble since). My current issue however is my husband set-up the device originally and has lost the password. I have access to the on-line site but from there I can’t control the device to run back-ups. There appears to be no option to re-set the password?? Can someone please tell me how to get the password re-set on the main device.
Thanks!

Which “online” site are you accessing? The MyCloud.com web portal for remote access? Or the local network http://WDMyCloud for access to the WD My Cloud Dashboard. Next, are you trying to control the backup from a computer to the My Cloud? Or control the My Cloud backup to another My Cloud, USB drive or other local network location (called Safepoint or Backup)?

To configure, control and run the Safepoint / Backup feature of the My Cloud Dashboard, one will need to be on their local network to access the My Cloud Dashboard.

If one is unable to access the My Cloud Dashboard due to not knowing the My Cloud Administrator password, one can reset the My Cloud unit by initiating a 4 second reset via the reset button on the back of the My Cloud.

Option A: 4 Second Reset (Reset with Power On)
The 4 Second Reset will reset the following:
•Admin Password (No password by default)
•Network Mode (Default = Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP))

NOTE Note: The 4 Second Reset will only reset the Admin Password. It will not reset the Admin User Name. In order to reset the Admin User Name perform Option B - the 40 Second Reset outlined below.

Hi There, Thanks for the quick response. I can get at the site where you can see your files and you log in with your email address but I can’t see the dashboard there. What I can’t access is the http://WDMyCloud to get to the dashboard. Is the only option a full reset. The only reason I care is the thing was a nightmare to set-up originally, took the support people over an hour so I’m afraid to un-do that.
Thanks!
Lori

If you are not connected to your local network and are NOT accessing the My Cloud using “http://wdmycloud” then you are accessing the MYCloud.com REMOTE web portal. You cannot configure or access the Safepoint / Backup feature of the My Cloud from the remote web portal. If you are attempting to backup a computer to the My Cloud remotely the Safepoint software does not support remote backup. The best one can do (using the WD software) to “backup” one’s computer files from a remote location to the My Cloud is use the WD Sync program.

Ok thanks for your help. I really just need to be able to control the device so I guess I’ll have to do a factory re-set. Must be about the only consumer device around that doesn’t allow a password re-set.

So who set up your My Cloud, you or your husband?

Who is the administrator? If your husband set it up then he is. Did he create a share for you and a user name or are you both using the same share? Do you have Version 2.X or 4.X?

In initial set up were these icons created and on your desktop? See image below.

Look at this, My Cloud │ How it Works.

You can change the User password used on the My Cloud IF you can access and log into the Dashboard if you forgot the administrator password which is used to access the Dashboard then a reset may be needed to gain access to the Dashboard.

Hi There, Yes unfortunately I let him set it up and I think he is the administrator and forgot the password. I can’t access the dashboard from any of the links so I think I’ll have to just start over, what a pain. Thanks for your help!

Once you reset the admin password to the default using the 4 second reset, how do you create a new password?

One creates or sets the User Password, including the administrator password, on the User page in the My Cloud Dashboard. Select the user name on the User page then enable the password option then input a password.
