Help Please - WD Studio, can I partition with data still on it, and then how to partition?

Hi All,

I have a WD Studio 1TB which was used on a macbook to just hold some additional data. I now want to use it for 2 things.

1 - Back Up with Time Machine to keep my work data backed up.

2 - Store my itunes music/videos on as my data exceeds the HD size of the macbook. Ideally I will link itunes to the WD Studio so I don’t have to store music on the macbook hd.

At present all I have on my WD Studio is my itunes music and vids, all other documents etc is on the macbook drive. What I would like to do is partition my WD Studio to say 500GB back up facility and 500GB itunes.

Can you tell me if it is possible to partition my drive while data is still on it as I don’t really want to move my itunes stuff. Secondly can you point me at the link that tells me how to partition as I am not sure how to do it.

Thanking you in advance.

Matt

Please note: Partition the hard drive will erase all data.

You must save those data to your internal drive first.

After you have saved all your data to your internal drive.

Here is how to do it:

a.  Click on  “Go” on the drop down menu.

b. Click on  “Utilities”

c. Double clicks on “Disk Utility”

d. Select the WD External drive by one click on it.

e. Click on " Partition".

f. Below the Volume Scheme, click on Current, then choose “2 Partitions” that is what you want.

You should see two divided like Untitled 1 and Untitled 2 below.

One click on Untitled 1, under name type " BackUp Utility",

One click on Untitled 2,  under name type " itunes".

g. Click on  “Options” choose “GUID Partition Table” then click OK.

h. Click on “Apply” then “Partition”

You are done.
