I thought I could connect the WD direcly to my PC and then transfer directly from my PC and to the WD? DO I reallly have to put it on an USB-devise and then into the WD ?

Yes.
You need to do a search on the Forum for “crossover”. I think you may be able to connect your PC directly to the Hub via ethernet ports. You will need a crossover ethernet cable (versus a standard one) and I think you need to manually deal with the IP addresses on the PC & Hub. Here is one link…sure there are more.
