Help; how do i set up network settings for media player?

I’m trying to connect my WD tv live media player to my Windows 7 pc (Wired, via ethernet cable),
however i get an error when using the ‘automatic’ option (it doesn’t connect to the pc…)

Using the ‘manual’ option, what do i enter for the network settings; ip address, subnet mask,
default gateway, and dns server?  
Do you need to be a computer scientist to know this stuff?!

What’s the error that you are getting?

What router are you using?

Is your router setup to DHCP?
