Has WD's firmware updates also been compromised? (Just wondering . . . .)

I am wondering if the hacker(s) has/have managed to get access to the systems that contain the firmware source code for all if not most of the NASs on WD’s servers which would make it a disaster if any compromised firmware gets uploaded to all the NASs out there.

I’m guessing that if hackers were to try and get anywhere within WD’s systems, it would be to inject their code onto all of the NASs that are out there right now.

@Myron
That’s why I have backups. Backup Definition (techterms.com)

I have several backups. My old 1st generation WDMYCLOUD OS3 is on my home network now and still works. My 2nd generation WDMYCLOUD OS5 would be the one I would have to worry about. All my important data is on all three of my computers or other means, thumb drives.

Cousin Occam would suggest that a Ransomware attack with inadequate WD backups is a more likely explanation.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Having said that. . . . . the advice in the above posts seems wise. . . .

Have you tried hard reset?
