I rebooted my Windows 7, 64-bit machine, and the external hard drive was no longer visible. I unplugged and replugged the drive, and I got the message “Hardware ID missing on device plugged in to the USB 3.0 root hub.” I disabled and re-enabled the USB 3.0 Root and Hub in the Device Manager, unplugged and replugged the cable, rebooted the machine, and I checked the Computer Management/Storage/Disk Management window – the drive did not appear there, either.
I have a WDBACX0010BK-00. I am unable to find any information regarding a missing hardware ID for this type of drive. Does anyone have any ideas how to recover, at least long enough to retrieve data?
