Harddrive read only

after updating my computer, deleting and redownlinad WD software I’m unable to change the hard drive to write and read.

If you are unable to read from or write to your WD hard drive even after updating your computer and reinstalling the WD software, there might be some underlying issues that need to be addressed. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Check USB Port and Cable: Ensure that the USB port and cable you are using are working correctly. Try using a different USB port and cable to verify that the issue is not related to a faulty connection.

  2. Check Drive Status: Verify whether the WD hard drive is properly recognized by your computer. Go to the Device Manager (for Windows) to check if the drive is detected without any issues.

  3. Adjust Permissions: Make sure that you have the necessary permissions to read from and write to the WD hard drive. Adjust the permissions settings as required to allow read and write access.

  4. Run Disk Repair Tools: Use built-in disk repair tools like CHKDSK for Windows to check for and repair any file system errors on the WD hard drive.

  5. Try on Another Computer:Test the WD hard drive on another computer to determine if the issue is specific to your computer or the WD hard drive itself.

  6. Update Firmware:Visit the Western Digital website to check for any available firmware updates for your specific WD hard drive model. Updating the firmware might resolve any compatibility issues.

  7. Contact WD Support: If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Western Digital support for further assistance. They can provide you with specific troubleshooting steps or guidance tailored to your situation.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it’s possible that there might be a more complex hardware-related problem with the WD hard drive, and professional assistance may be required to diagnose and fix the issue.
