Hi,

G-Tech drives are formatted at the factory for Mac OS. Changes to the Mac OS in 10.5 and above have caused an incompatibility with Windows OS, requiring the drive to be “cleaned” before being formatted.

I have a new SDPH51J-018T-NBAAD 18TB G-DRIVE PRO Thunderbolt 3 Desktop Hard Drive and Dell Precision 7760 notebook PC.

If I connect or disconnect the drive while the PC is powered on, the PC completely locks up.

After much frustration and experimentation, I have found that if the drive is powered up and connected before powering on the notebook it works. This greatly limits the usefulness and portability of the drive and the notebook PC.

I have cleaned and repartitioned the drive and formatted it as NTFS.
