G DRIVE PSU swappable?

Hey Everyone, I’m the main archivist for a recording studio. We have mountains of the G-Drives that are USB 3 / FW800 and they take the 12v power adapter. Recently we had to purchase new drives and our only option was the new 4GB USB-C drives that use a 19v power adapter. Are we able to use the 12v adapter with these? We won’t be charging laptops or anything just data transfer. Also, if someone by accident puts the new 19v adapter into the old drives will it cause them any harm?

Thanks!

The 19v versions are there in order to offer power charge pass-thru for the newest MacBook Pros. The drives themselves will still work with 12v 2a adapters. You however do not want to use the 19v units on the older devices as they are not designed to handle that extra voltage and it could damage them.
