G-Drive Pro - slow responding

I’ve had a G-Drive Pro but always had a little issue with it (using on an iMac 5K).

Basically after a while the drive get unresponsive and takes a while to wake up. I describe it like that because it is like it has gone to sleep but very hard to wake up. Once the drive has gone quiet, when I try accessing it there is a wait of up to a couple of minutes for it wake up/be useable again.

I need another drive but before I order another G-Technology drive I want to make sure it’s not going to have the same issues.

Any idea what I can check or what the problem could be?

The issue is with the design in that device. It was a special type of drive that included 4 2.5" drives all RAIDded together inside the enclosure. It has multiple spinning drives inside and with the drives sleeping and waking you’ll run into what you’re experiencing.

We no longer make drives like this so any new drive you purchase will work different and it will be more efficient.
