Find serial number of Passport?

Is there any other place besides the drive itself, or the box it came in where the serial number can be located? My drive was stolen from work, and I may have recovered it, but I need to prove the serial number matches.

Would my old drive’s number be stored somewhere on my laptop?

you can check you the WD DLG tool, but you need to know your serial number to verify.
