I’ve been asked to take a look at a friends external hard drive. Here what he said the problem is… when he plugs it into a usb port it recognises it but does not show up in My Computer.

Its a “WD Elements”

MDL = WD10000EB035-01

can anyone suggest anything as I also have the same problem with his drive.

What OS is he using and does it show in Disk Management? Make sure you’re not using a cable longer that the one supplied and don’t use a hub. On a desktop try a port on the back. If this is a powered drive try plugging directly to the outlet and not the power strip.

all cables used are original that came with drive. I have tried several usb ports on my unit.
