Elephant Drive back up failed when computer not on

My EX4 does nightly back ups to Elephant Drive. On a night when my computer was off, the back up did not occur. Are they connected in some way? The EX4 does appear as a “device” on my computer, but not on any of the other machines in the office.
Should I,or can I remove it as a device on my computer and still have it work correctly?

WD Smartware is provided with My Cloud EX4 . And it doesn’t allow to take a backup of virtual online storage service drive. Are you able to take backup of locally stored data ?

The back ups are only of data that is resident on the EX4.
The other machines in the office have mapped connections to it only.
