Editing XML files

I downloaded an XML editor.

I opened the XML file for Key Largo, which shows the genres ‘Drama’ and ‘Thriller’.

http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/11016

I edited ‘Drama’ to ‘Film Noir’.

I re-connected my HDD to the WDTV and filtered by ‘Genre’.

No genre of ‘Film Noir’ shows up, and Key Largo still appears under ‘Drama’, though on screen it says Genre: Film Noir’.

Can anyone help?  I’ve never edited XML files before.

Cheers.

Steve W

Paste the XML up so I can have a look at what wd creates please.

Sounds like the Media Library need to rescan to me.

Hope that helps.  You can see near the start where it says Film Noir

How do I get the media library to re-scan?

Cheers.

Thanks

what you have pasted does not seem to be a valid XML file … can you paste up what WD TV created …maybe for another film ??

That XML is valid;  the Hub and Live SMP have a bad habbit of putting everything on a SINGLE LINE, though.

If you edit it, though, with a proper XML editor such as Microsoft XML Notepad (free download) it will restore proper formatting and syntax.

The XML is NOT the media library.   The XML is what FEEDS the media library, and once that “feeding” is done, changes will only be DISPLAYED, but will not be a part of the database itself.

If you make ANY changes to the XML, it must re-import it into the media library.

So, for now, you’ll need to erase the media library off that drive and let it rebuild it using your new data.

Or, you can move the XML file out of the way, then do ERASE CONTENT INFO on that title, then move the XML back, and let it rescan.

I’m currently trying these solutions.  I’ve cleared ther media library, and it’'s re-building.

How do I ERASE CONTENT INFO for that one title?

Cheers.

ps I used firstobject XML Editor.

SW

Highlight it, and press OPTIONS.

Actually, I think it is “CLEAR content info,” or something like that.  Can’t remember the exact verb used.  :)

Cheers.

After much jiggery pokery I got this sorted for Key Largo…now for my other 400 films.

Can you have a local jpg for the valiue.

For my home movies if you add your own XML and use your own Folder.jpg will the Gllaery view the large thumnail show ?

Help ??

I believe the tag is ignored.    It’s just being carried over from the TVDB / TMDB XML files, but the Live SMP does not appear to use it in any way, at least that I can tell…

so the folder.jpg woudl be used ? or the movename.jpg ?

Whch one ?

If both are present, “folder.jpg” would be shown for the folder icon, and “moviename.jpg” would be shown when you are IN the folder.

If folder.jpg is NOT present, I believe that “moviename.jpg” is used for both.

I am using Media Center Master to scrape for movie data. The format of the XML file created with this tool seem to be different than the XML file created by WD TV.

The question is could I use any XML file or it must be in a certain format for WD TV SMP to recognize the content?

There are two different formats;  one for MOVIE and one for TV.

Using the wrong one only affects whether files will show up when filtered by “TV Show”.
