Easystore Not Backing Up

I purchased the WD Easystore WDBKUZ0040BBK USB 3.0 (USB 2.0) 4 TB to use for my auto backup. I work on the MacOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 and use TimeMachine as the backup app. Lately, every so often, I receive a pop up message informing me that automatic backup has failed, and I use the Utility tool to unmount and run First Aid on the Easystore. This seems to fix the problem … until it happens again.

Anyone have any ideas for why should happen in the first place?
