DVR Expander eSATA Edition-not functional after Time-Warner software upgrade

Time-Warner changed its software and when the change occured everything on the DVR Expander was deleted and the video performance was horrible.  After I disconnected it, everything was fine. I was informed by two T-W Techs  that the DVR Expander is no longer  compatible with Time-Warner cable software.

So I have the DVR Expander but can’t use it…  A couple of questions:

Can I use it as a hard drive for my desk-top computer?  Will it be usable for digital turntable that I plan on using to transfer my old Vinyl records to digital media? Is it compatable with Verizon Fios?

Don’t want to think I spent the money for an item that I can only use as a paper weight.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice.
