There’s still the issue for people that do have a DTS-capable receiver but NOT DTS-HD capable – DTS-HD won’t work at all for them; it won’t even pass the core.
They need to allow selecting DTS but UNselecting DTS-HD.
Let me 1st say, i’m not doubting you … but can you explain this to me
I Have a 2014 WDTV Media Player & an old Teac DVR-301 … “Optical Audio” Connection to the WDTV
In WDTV Settings … selected Optical Pass-Through > Dolby Digital and DTS capable receiver
tried this sample clip: Dolby TrueHD 5.1

and this one: DTS-MA 5.1
http://dl.demo-world.eu/download_2d_trailers.php?filename=hd_thx_amazing_life_lossless-DWEU.m2ts
In both cases … i got sound through my Teac DVR-301 (led’s detected DD & DTS)
Now i know it isn’t true HD or MA … but the audio that came out (i’m not an audiophile, but) it did have “5.1 Channel Separation” (ran around the room putting my ear to each speaker)
So, i guess the question i’m asking is … does the DTS-HD (DTS-MA) on a Non Capable Receiver “No Sound” only effect the HDMI connection ?
Because, i don’t have a problem with my setup via Optical.
